Artist’s Statement
Media artist Friederike Weber (born 1999) is from Frankfurt am Main. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Time-based and Interactive Media Arts from the University of Arts Linz. After beginning her Master’s studies at the HfG Offenbach, she started her Master’s in Media Art at the Bauhaus Universität Weimar, where she currently lives. Her work operates at the intersection of analog and digital media. Through video installations, experimental short films, documentaries, and photography, she explores themes from her immediate surroundings.
What often begins autobiographically, such as the exploration of platonic relationships, expands into broader societal questions. Her work addresses coming of age, privilege and freedom, and the complexity of emotions.
In 2023, Friederike Weber was awarded the „Jury’s Favorite“ prize as part of the Cinema Next Tour, a platform supporting filmmakers in Austria. Her work has been exhibited internationally at the Ars Electronica Center, FlowSpace Gallery in Barcelona, Kulturverein Rosenheim, and the Crossing Europe Film Festival.
