WHERE TO GO?
Where to Next? The Art of Conscious Route Planning
Before you turn the ignition or push off on your bike, every journey begins with a simple but daunting question: Where do I actually want to go?
The options are endless, and there is no „right“ or „wrong“ route, only your path. I want to share some of our favorite stops and the philosophy behind our route, not as a rigid itinerary, but as inspiration for your own map.
Our Compass on Four Paws: Traveling with a Dog
Our decision to drive South was heavily influenced by our Swiss Shepherd, Lubo. When you live in a van with a dog, their comfort dictates the pace.
Just like us, Lubo thrives in moderate climates. Our „sweet spot“ is between 20°C and 25°C (approx. 68°F – 77°F). This meant avoiding the scorching heat of the deep south in high summer and instead chasing the fresh breeze. The weather forecast became our most important travel guide.
Our route was rarely set in stone. Based on the season, our mood, and the creative energy of a place, we often made decisions over morning coffee. Spontaneity is the true luxury of vanlife. We stayed where it felt „right“ and moved on when the inspiration faded.
What Do You Need? (A Checklist)
Before you start planning, don’t just copy someone else’s Instagram itinerary. Ask yourself honestly: What do I want and need right now?
Climate: Are you a sun-seeker, or do you prefer cooler temperatures?
Company: Are you traveling solo, with a partner, a child, or a dog?
Vibe: Do you need the isolation of the mountains for deep work, or the coastline for wide horizons?
For now, feel free to click yourself through our routes and get inspired by those beautiful places all around us!
